Dubbo Macquarie River Bushcare Inc have been working with members of the Dubbo community since October 2002 to improve and restore riverbank habitat and water quality in the Macquarie River. Local people help with regular working bees, attend meetings and help raise awareness of the importance of our river and keeping it healthy. The Group carry out such work as weed control, plantings, mulching, designing and installing Interpretive signs, maintaining plantings, rubbish removal, environmental training days and increasing community awareness. The Group work closely with Dubbo City Council and the Western Plains Zoo and also take part in the National Events such as Clean up Australia Day, National Tree Day, World Environment Day, Weedbuster week, Dubbo Show and more The Group always welcomes new members who pay an annual $10 membership fee for an individual or family.
